White Christmas

A bit late I know, I’ve been pre-occupied with non-digital pursuits. Â It was a beautiful white christmas at the beach. White with foam. Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!

Although the steep south’s mostly missed, we got a fun day of combo swell last week with just a few folks from the neighborhood out🌊

Scraggly oak. Not the official name, of course. One of my favorite trees around here though. Whimsical and other worldly…especially after a wet season that covers them in moss.

Out with the old and in with the new✨The beauty of working with a local shaper is not only getting equipment specifically designed for the local conditions but also being able to fine tune and dial in what works for you from one shape to the next. The #RF5 model from Nick at #ShearwaterSurfboards & #Paddleboards only comes in one length and is a tried and true step-up for good waves. It’s a 6’8”. It’s probably the board I ride most during the fall and winter and I like to see how far I can push it in both smaller waves and waves that I should be riding an 8’0”. This latest one is 19.75 by 2.5 with a single concave through the fins. I got it out yesterday, briefly, 8@13, windy, and all sorts of rips. This time of year you never know if there will be more opportunities to test a sleek blade like this so had to give it a go. Verdict? Felt great of course, no learning curve required…great paddler and turns like a shortboard. This one is a little ‘sexier’ than my last one, slightly more pulled in tail and some other subtle tweaks. It’s a thruster only setup running with EA thruster fins by @ericarakawasurfboards Side note: The EA quad set is amazing too and have used them for years. As always, big thanks to Nick for making clean boards that keep me excited and progressing year over year and big thanks to the team at @stretchboards for the solid glasswork. Much appreciated🤙🏽
